WEBBING

Webbing is textile woven as either flat strip or tube in different fibers and widths. This fabric is made from either natural or synthetic fibre yarn. The type of yarn is chosen depending on the application of the webbing. Cotton is a common natural fibre material used for making this woven fabric, which synthetic fibres like polypropylene, nylon, and polyester are the common materials for webbing.

Webbing products start with weaving, which is a process where two different sets of yarns are interlaced at a certain angle to form a fabric. There are different types or patterns used for weaving and it is often chosen depending on usage requirements. Once the weaving is completed, the fabric undergoes dyeing. Some webbing products undergo specialised finishes such as Teflon coating, anti-static coating, retardancy, etc. to add water-resistance and other specialised properties to the fabric.

Webbing is known for its high strength and versatility. Flat webbing is stronger and more rigid; however, tubular webbing, while thicker than flat webbing, offers more flexibility. The type of webbing used often depends on the needs of the final application. Also known as narrow fabric, this woven fabric is often used in place of chains, ropes, or steel wire.

Webbing can be seen being used in everyday applications such as load straps, bag straps, seatbelts, and canvas products. It is also used in commercial applications including furniture, equestrian saddlery, pet leashes, footwear, fitness apparel, sporting goods, and marine equipment. It is also used in industrial applications which include mining, transport, rigging, and automotive sectors. Webbing is commonly preferred that old-school materials because it is easy to use and has low risk and proven safety benefits.

Polypropylene Webbing

Polypropylene Webbing is a versatile, lightweight fabric that’s able to resist degradation from glues and solvents. It is composed of a thermoplastic synthetic polymer that gives it strength, durability, and water-resistant properties. Polypropylene is cost-effective and able to withstand harsh environmental conditions, which is why it is used in a wide range of applications. Its UV and mold resistance properties make it appropriate for outdoor equipment. It is also not affected by acids, chemicals, and oils. Nevertheless, it is not an ideal heavy-duty webbing because of its lower melting point.

Seat Belt Webbing

Seat belt Webbing is made from polyester, but it is thinner and has lower tensile strength than regular Polyester Webbing. Its name is based on its main use, but it is often preferred for other applications such as bag straps, boating accessories, camping gears, tents, and tarps. It is also used for making garden and lawn equipment. Despite its thinner constitution, it is used for rugged applications as it does not shrink and rot. It is also mildew and mold resistant as it absorbs very little water. It is also UV resistant and can withstand a wide range of acids.

PVC Webbing

PVC Webbing is made from polyester that’s coated with Polyvinyl Chloride. It is known for its durability, strength, and abrasion resistance. It is also 100% water and bacteria resistant. It is cleanable and easier to maintain than common types of webbing. This coated webbing is commonly used as dog collars and leashes. It is also used in saddlery and equestrian industry as horse bridles and halters. Additionally, it’s also used in mining and transport industries due to it being stronger.

Cotton Webbing

Cotton Webbing is made from cotton fiber is environmentally friendly compared to synthetic webbing. This woven fabric is soft to touch but has adequate strength and is also heat and alkali resistant. Cotton webbing is widely used in various industries. This material is used for making belts, bag straps, dog collars, tie downs, purses, lanyards, sporting goods, decorative furniture trim, and more.

Polyester Webbing

Polyester Webbing is a highly popular choice due to its abrasion, UV, and water resistance. It is also resistant to mildew and is known to be strong and durable. This material is also able to withstand harsh weather conditions. Such properties make it an ideal choice for outdoor products. It is also a great material for backpacks and luggage straps. Although it’s not as strong as nylon, it is a more affordable choice.
